First look at the piece you're going to frame and find a color or element you want to bring out when people look at it. Next, match the element/color to the mat or actual frame in order for it to showcase beautifully. Colors can change the entire mood of a picture, so grab a bunch of different colors and pop them next to your piece to see which mood you like best.
Tip #2 How Long Do We Want This To Last?
The purpose of framing is to protect the artwork from damage. Too much sunlight, dust, dirt and even people touching the piece can cause artwork to be ruined. Depending on how long you want your piece to survive on the wall will depend on the materials you pick out. There are many types of glass that you can use to protect your artwork.
